Check out the activities the kids did to keep themselves amused. They may not have had a lot but they were never bored and always found something fun to do.

A nail, a rock and a piece of wood what more do you need?
The kids loved playing hockey. The sticks were brought by another volunteer. We had many fun times playing. They thought I would be good since I was from Canada but obviously I was not.
The older girls at the orphanage often made toffee to sell at school. It is boiled sweet and condensed milk that they then roll and cut into small pieces. They then sold it for 5 pasowa per piece.

The children at the orphanage get water three times per day. They get it from 2 different locations. One is a well and the other is stagnant water. In the area with stagnant water that children must move the top layer of water to get "somewhat cleaner water". The well has cleaner water but has more rules connected to it. To get to the actual well you need to walk through a small portion of stagnant water. The chief of Achaisi has made a law that you can not walk through the water with shoes one which is not the most sanitary experience for the children everyday. I am sure their are parasites in this water. Another law related to the well developed by the chief is that you can not got to the well after 6:00. The children have been told that they will turn to stone if they do, this is also believed by the orphanage owner. This is followed religiously as water must be fetch before this time. |

Every time I went to get water with the kids they laughed at me,
and told me I could not carry as much as they could. |

I feel like the kids were always in the trees whether it was to get some type of food high in the tree or just for fun. I am amazing by their ability to climb even a smooth palm tree.

The boys loved playing soccer and they had some serious skills. During the time off of school after Christmas the boys played in a game against one of the other orphanages. Upon arriving at this orphanage we learned that it is not an orphanage, but try to be known as an orphanage or be unknown. We learned that it is a home for children who have been rescued from slavery. This is the transitional home for at least 50 days before they are moved for a location with the school and future planning. This organization works with families to reunite children after gaining education related to child slavery. We learned about how the boys rescued and how they are supported and cared for to address issues related to being a slave. I learned all this from a volunteer that works their while the boys were playing soccer. It was interesting to learn that the women had been at the home that day to do play therapy. Talking with her was so interesting and eye opening for me. To make the day even better the boys from our orphanage won the soccer game and were so excited. It was so exciting to see the boys so proud of themselves.
