We took a day tour in Tuscany and it was incredible. I loved every minute of it. We visited San Gimingnano, Siena, a vineyard and lots of country side along the way. The scenery was breath taking in every direction.
It was international women's day, so each women was given a mimosa to celebrate being a women. There was mimosa being sold everywhere that day.
The first stop during our tour was San Gimignano, a Unesco World Heritage Site and a very authentic medieval town. The town is distinguished by its world famous, towered skyline. At one point I think there were 30 towers, now there are much fewer still standing. San Gimignano is what I think about when I think about a quaint Italian town. I loved the beautiful side streets where you can see daily life happening.
We went on a great guided tour of Siena, with fantastic architecture. We visited the Piazza del Campo, which is the shell shaped square that is the stage of the famous Palio horse race that is run twice every summer. It is crazy the small space that this intense race is held in. In Sienna we visited a church unlike any other I have seen (and I have seen a lot of churches along the way). As you can see from the pictures it is very different than you would expect a Catholic church to look like. The black and white color in linked to the black and white horses of the legendary city's founders, Senius and Aschius.
Our last stop was in the Chianti Classico area where the scenic views were incredible. Now when I drink Chianti I will know just where it came from. We visited a famous wine estate that produces Chianti Classico, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and aromatic herbs. We did both a tour and tasting while we were there. We tried white wine, red wine, truffle olive oil, and Balsamic vinegar. I may have been living in a hole before but I just realized that balsamic is made from grapes. Either way the Balsamic was amazing. We even had it on Vanilla ice cream, it was awesome. I know this sounds gross but it was amazing (try it some time).
We had an incredible day. By the end of the day Megan was trying to figure out a way to get start up capital to buy a vineyard in Tuscany.
