Leaning Tower of Pisa

Mar.9 2012

Once we arrived in Florence we headed out quickly to Pisa. You can't go to Italy and not visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Pisa is not the prettiest city but seeing the tower was super cool. The amazing weather made it even better!!!! I love the sunshine!

Doing "the lean"

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a marble bell tower. Even though the tower has been leaning since it was under construction, it has stood for hundreds of years, despite the fact that it looks as if it might fall any minute.

The tower was started over 800 years ago, in 1173, and after the first three of its eight stories were built, the ground started to sink, and the tower began to lean. It has continued leaning, a millimeter each year, and now leans 14 feet out of line.

We had a great time taking photos at the tower until we got a whistle blown at us by the security guard. There were no signs that said we could not be in the grass, but I guess it was not allowed.

Shannon is going to push it back in place

Not sure I am strong enough to push it down

Look at it lean!

We climbed to the 300 winding steps to top of the tower and it was weird because you kind of felt like you were leaning as you were going up the stairs. The view from the top of the tower was fantastic. We really lucked out because it was a beautiful clear sunny day.

On top of the tower

Stadium telling us just where we are

The view from the tower was awesome on a bright sunny day
